The most important test of the Czech horseracing calendar and also the richest flat race in Central Europe, the Czech Derby, which took place last September due to the postponement of the entire season, is returning to its traditional June date. This Sunday in the Chuchle Arena Prague, fourteen three-year-old colts and two fillies will compete on the 1 1/2 mile the most prestigious classic race. Fifteen horses are trained in the Czech Republic and one participant arrives from France. The first of eight races of the day starts at 12.30 pm.
The winner of the Dr. Frankenberger Memorial Stakes Hazarder (j. Janáček, tr. Tůma, own. Dr. Charvát) is the favorite of the race, Royal Word (j. Palík, tr. Šavujev, own./bred. Valentin Bukhtoyarov), winner of Czech 2000 Guineas and participant of French Derby, is the second chance in field of sixteen. Also Tcheque King (j. Vyhnálek, tr. Török, own. DS Pegas) and Rex of Thunder (j. Demo, tr. Demele , own. Stáj Březová), winners of the main trials in Prague and Bratislava, and winner of some small race in Paris-Longchamp L'Ienissei (j. Panov, tr./own. Igor Endaltsev) are prefered for good result.
The whole program will start with the first of five races of the traditional Fitmin Cup series for two-year-old Czech bred horses, and after that all Class A races (Jockey Club Sprint Stakes, Tattersalls Mile, Tipsport Gold Cup and 101st CPIPG Czech Derby) will gradually take place. In the final part of the afternoon (after the Czech Derby) there will be ran another three races and also (unofficial) premiere racing performance of Shetland ponies in Prague.
