Slovak colt Opasan is favorite of the 100 Czech Derby



Unprecedented events of this year versus the jubilee Czech Derby, one of the key questions of the current horse racing season will be answered this Sunday. The 100th running of the most prestigious classical race, which traditionally takes place in the second half of June, had to be postponed to the deadline of its history, but it will take place and without financial restrictions. So again with a total price of two million czech crowns (ca. 75 ths eur), which makes it the richest flat race in Central Europe. There are thirteen three-year-old colts and three fillies from three countries at the start of the Derby. Also the other races promise a great spectacle, a total of 99 horses and 33 riders will presented in eight races.

The favorite of the 100th Czech Derby is Opasan, easy winner Dr. Frankenberger Memorial Stakes, unbeaten in this year. Another big chance horses are Oaks-winner Zariyannka, Czech 2000 Guineas winner Rate and Markoni LP, who won last derby-trial race three weeks ago.

This raceday will also offer a rich accompanying program, mostly in historical spirit.
