The Cup for Antonio Fresu



On the last Saturday in September, the seventh running of the European Jockey Cup took place in the Chuchle Arena Prague, a prestigious racing event that brings a number of jockey stars to the Czech Republic. The winner of the overall ranking was the Italian Antonio Fresu, the second place was taken by Adrie De Vries from the Netherlands and the third place went to Per-Anders Graberg from Sweden.

Antonio Fresu won two races of the program, the EJC BAK Stavební společnost Stakes (85th Gersch Memorial Stakes) for two-year-old horses with filly Porcinella and surprisingly also the Hrubymoving EJC Long (43rd Czech Turf Stakes) in the saddle of the Czech breeder 4yo filly Wellunca. Adrie De Vries made a full impact in one of the lower class race and scored additional points for placing in three other program items. Per-Anders Graberg won another of smaller races and also the final EJC Lokotrans Middle in the saddle of Australien and in his sixth participation in the EJC he fought his way to the podium for the first time. The first woman in the history of the main nominations of the EJC Sibylle Vogt from Switzerland finished fourth, while the Portuguese Ricardo Sousa took the fifth place.

In EJC Leram Million, the traditional main point of the program, the 4yo filly Rabbit Breath won with the Slovak jockey-champion Jaroslav Línek, who dominated this race for the third time in its history.
