Ignacius Reilly won April Stakes



On Sunday, May 24, this year's metropolitan racing season began at the Chuchle Arena Prague. The season had to begin a month and a half later than originally planned and without spectators due to the coronavirus situation. In eight races, 116 horses were presented on an ideally prepared track and both main races of the program had top starting fields.

In the 62nd April Stakes (Class A, 9f, 150 ths CZK) , the winner of last year's Czech 2000 Guineas, 4yo colt Ignacius Reilly (j. Liška, tr. Luka, own. Syndikát V3j) reached the second lifetime win, by 1/2 lenghts of Torque Power and popular mare Saša third. 6yo gelding Ultimate Fight (j. Lukášek, tr. Koplík, own. Václav Slovák) won traditional seasonal-opening highlight 93rd Gomba handicap (Class A, 6f, 135 ths CZK) by three quarters of the length of Manoamano, Beau Massagot finished third by another four lenghts. Ultimate Fight reached already the seventh lifetime win, the second one on Prague's racetrack.

Jockey Jiří Palík (119th double career), trainers Václav Luka, Zdeno Koplík and Miroslav Nieslanik and also the stable of MUDr. Eva Nieslaniková achieved two wins on this day.
